See our privacy policy. I have a lot of problems with jeans and the fit or lack there of around the waist band. There always seems to be a gap. I have a pair in particular that I love and want to keep except for this problem. Is there a way to have them tailored? Is this a common request? Do you have any advice in this area? Yes you can have your jeans tailored, but most tailors will not be able to give you that perfect fit because the problem is in the construction of the jeans.
Tailors can make the waist band smaller and take in the hips, but that would essentially be reconstructing the entire jean. Look for jeans that are made for those with a bit more curves. All you need is 10 inches of so of 1 inch elastic and two colors of thread — one that matches your jeans, and one that matches the topstitching on your jeans. And a denim or heavyweight needle! Never try to sew on jeans without one unless you like breaking things.
Use the thread that matches your jeans for this. Once the elastic is secure, you can trim off the excess of each side, switch out to the thread that matches the topstitching you unpicked, and sew back over that part you unpicked to close the waistband back up. No more gap, and no more too much on display when I sit down. Hello there! A few are manufacturers who've claimed to solve the problem. Wrangler says the answer is to have a curved waistband. Lands End says the answer is "a trimmer waist.
Most of the items are consumer comments -- reviews, bulletin boards, and blogs. The consumer comments reveal that there might not be a single answer. Two of four comments about Cabela's Jeanos say they don't gap in the back, but the other two say they do. One person who had a poor fit said the problem applied to the long-waisted.

It is nearly impossible for me to find jeans that fit. Jinkies , Jul 17, Joined: May 16, Messages: 2, Likes Received: Jul 17, Yup, mine do and it's soooo annoying! My hips are wide compared to my waist and I don't have much of a butt, not sure if that's why the pants do it though.
Although I'm guessing it is because pre-kids which is also pre-wide hips, I don't recall having this issue. MsMar , Jul 17, Joined: Jul 9, Messages: 1, Likes Received: 2. Jul 17, Mine don't gap. I try on a million pairs of jeans to find the least gappy ones, and always wear a long undershirt tucked in to school. I've lived here two years, and have been trying that whole time to buy jeans.
When I finally caved and bought some online, they'd changed the fabric to have more spandex, and they were gross. Buying jeans is a nightmare! I will literally practically not be able to button them at my waist, and then I will have inches of material just hanging off in the back and around my legs. I've found that american eagle slim boot jeans fit me the best- it's really hard to find ones that don't have any holes there though since we have jeans day every Friday at school. I gave up on trying to buy jeans at department stores a long time ago. Joined: Jul 22, Messages: 1, Likes Received: 0.
