Once you have successfully completed Driver CPC Modules 1, 2, 3 and 4 you will be able to drive professionally and will be sent a Driver Qualification Card. These enable you to get your provisional licence and take your theory and practical tests.

Your PSV licence will last indefinitely, just like your car driving licence, but the CPC qualification Module 4 which allows you to drive professionally lasts for 5 years only and requires you to undertake 35 hours of periodic CPC training very 5 years. There is no exam at the end of the formal training but your attendance must be registered at an approved training centre. You will be presented with a series of 19 video or cgi clips which feature everyday road scenes.

In each clip there will be at least one developing hazard, but one of the clips will feature two developing hazards.

To achieve a high score you will need to respond to the developing hazard during the early part of its development. The maximum you can score on each hazard is five. You will not be able to review your answers to the hazard perception test: as on the road, you will only have one chance to respond to the developing hazard.

This will be made up of seven case studies, each one with 6 to 8 questions with a maximum score of 50, you must answer 38 correctly. The actual on road driving time will be a minimum of 1 hour, to include 15 minutes of independent driving, this will give the examiner time to assess candidates driving in varied traffic conditions over a wide variety of roads.

There is often quite a lot of confusion surrounding PCV licensing with many confusing what is known as the PSV licence.

If you obtained a car licence before January 1st you can legally drive minibuses for non commercial purposes. A minibus is classed as a vehicle that does not exceed 8 metres in length and carries between nine and sixteen passengers.

So to sum this up if you need to operate a minibus professionally at all then you will need a Category D1 vehicle licence. If you are still left confused please do let us know what it is you would like to do and we can guide you to the right type of PCV training. Our training courses provide everything you need to pass your test including Theory, Practical and CPC training.
